Our group applies Electrical Engineering and Computer Science to create tools and systems to help people and communities. All over the world, mobile phones have become our personal wearable computer that has transformed our work as well as our personal lives. Coupled with intelligent algorithms, smart phones are powerful instruments that augment our senses, predict our health, or simply to give us feedback and help guide our behavior. Like any tool, smart phones can be abused, and can also be addictive if self-agency is neglected. But in general, these ubiquitous personal computers have enormous potential for empowering everyday people (patients, health workers, doctors, farmers, etc.) to perform extraordinary tasks in a wide variety of domains ranging from diagnostic support, mental health and drug addiction, global health, or even farming and education.
