Although several forms of human trafficking exist, sex-trafficking is perhaps the most well-known, which affects predominantly women. While many support organizations and transition shelters exist to help victims of sex-trafficking, an average victim returns to the lifestyle 6 times before permanently leaving and often lacks the necessary support to thrive independently. Our group is developing mobile apps and machine learning algorithms that provide peer support for sex-trafficking victims, and also help predict times of stress and vulnerability in order to provide just-in-time support when it is most needed.
